Benefits of locally grown trees.
We have found many benefits to growing the trees we sell here in Southwest Idaho. Here are some of those benefits:
Anyone who has lived in the Treasure Valley knows that we have some crazy weather. Everything from early cold spells, late frosts, dreaded inversions, extreme heat, the occasional snowpocalypse and we’ll probably be surprised by some other random weather event soon. When trees and plants have been grown here in those conditions we have found much greater success in their survivability in our area.
Transporting trees can be very tough on them. They have to survive large temperature swings, lack of water, being bounced around in trailer and more. Being grown close to where they will end up is very beneficial.
Transportation of trees is also quite expensive. When trees are brought in from out of state the suppliers have to do things to make it more affordable. Things like smaller rootball and container sizes and stacking trees on top of each other can negatively affect the look and health of the trees and plants. Those problems can be avoided when they are grown nearby.
Growing trees in our farms in Southwest Idaho also allows us to have more control over our prices. Many times that helps us offer our trees at a more affordable price.
Those are some of the benefits to growing trees at our own farms and there are more. All that being said, we still have to bring in trees beyond what we can supply ourselves at this point (less and less every year). When we do we use suppliers that have proven to supply quality trees and that minimize the negative affects above. Come to Arbor Farms Nursery and see the care that we put in to supplying quality trees, plants and other landscape supplies!
